If you have a tooth that is missing a lot of structure due to a large, failed filling or a large amount of decay, Drs. Aunon and Cruz would recommend a crown be used for restoration. The conventional crowns made of mixed-metal would require additional healthy, viable tooth structure to be ground down – in fact, the tooth is usually reduced to about 1/3 of its original size–in order to provide enough adhesive surface for the crown to be cemented to.
Traditional crown cement has poor adhesive qualities, and large amounts of it must be used in order to keep the metal crown in place. Needing large amounts of surface area to bond to, this results in the grinding down of additional tooth structure for placement of the crown.
Dr. Aunon believes in having the most up to date technology that dentistry has to offer to greatly reduce and ultimately eliminate any fear of going to the dentist for the adult, teen, and especially the child. With the help of his highly qualified and caring staff, he promises the most comprehensive dental care.
